A new beginning, A new name

After months of half hearted attempts to revive my blog, lets learn to cook, with little sucesss, I decided to overhaul the blog, give it a new name and a new ideology. After all old things must always give way to new.
When I started my blog, I was just discovering what joy there can be in cooking and learning to cook. I wanted to carry my fellow readers with me as I went through the ABC's of cooking. But, now I feel the need to share much more than my experiences about learning to cook. Hence the change in name to 'The food tales' my blog is no longer about recipes, but about food and everything related to it. Watch this space for more

Most weekdays see me getting up really early at the crack of dawn to savor the fresh air,  and the peace that comes with solitude.  I  have to admit, though, that I  have never yet  managed to get up earlier than my Neighbors.  One would imagine,  that if one got up a quarter of an hour before sunrise,  one would be entitled to get up to the sounds of birdsong,  but no, I seem to live in a street of impossibly early risers.  I generally get up to the sounds of dishes being washed and of yards being swept all around me. Happy new year! Looking ahead with top 10 new recipes to try list

There was this family tradition we followed since I was a kid, and which me and my husband have continued with our children too and that is to cut a cake and eat it so we eat something sweet to welcome the new year.It has always been our my fond hope and belief that in so doing we are ensuring sweetness and joy for each and every moment for the rest of the new year. Optimistic much?? I guess so!!  Idealistic?? Orange Cake

Normally, I make it a point to post a dish as soon as I make it. I prefer it that way,as all that led up to the making of it , is fresh in my mind. Somehow or the other, I missed posting this one, although I made it quite a while ago and even took photographs, fully intending to post it. It all started with my son, clamoring for something sweet, and there being a surfeit of oranges in the refrigerator. The obvious choice for me to make an orange cake. In the mood for experimenting, I decided to steam the cake instead of baking it, and concerned about the effect all that maida (all purpose flour) would have on  my little one’s tummy I substituted all purpose with half of whole wheat and half of multigrain flour. The cake came out moist and sweet, with just the right tang of oranges. 3 oranges peeled and deseeded 1 cup whole wheat flour 1 cup multigrain flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup sugar  powdered (Depending on sweetness of oranges) 1 pinch powdered cinnamon 1 cup beaten yo
